Kuder Supports Career and Technical Education
In 1908 when Frank Parsons first formulated the main principles of career choice, he provided the framework for career and technical education (CTE), as it is known today. Over the years, CTE, first referred to as vocational guidance and education, has grown and evolved to become the focus in schools, workforce, and government. Frank Parsons, and many other leaders that came after him, understood the importance and need for career and technical education in our society.
CTE has played a leading role in shaping the American workforce and the economy of tomorrow. Kuder, Inc. (Kuder) supports the importance of guiding students and adults as they make choices for future education and careers. The mission of Kuder, to raise student aspirations and to provide career options to students and adults through self-assessment and education, is in-line with the founding principles of CTE. Kuder is backed by 70 years of research and experience, guided by the work of Dr. Frederick Kuder, and remains a leader in today’s marketplace by creating powerful, reliable solutions for our customers.
According to the Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE), CTE programs are a major solution to help alleviate national economic and workforce problems, such as high school dropout rates, a weakened economy, global competiveness, and massive layoffs. The Kuder® Career Planning System (KCPS) supports the principles of CTE by providing a comprehensive and user-friendly approach to successfully guide students and adults as they make choices for future education and careers. The core framework behind the KCPS is the States’ 16 Career Clusters that CTE programs are based on. The system is divided into three age-appropriate solutions to offer developmental guidance for career awareness (Kuder® Galaxy), career exploration and educational planning (Kuder® Navigator), and career planning and management (Kuder® Journey).
By participating in CTE courses, students are better equipped with skills the workforce desires. With the aid of Kuder solutions, students are able to put education into a relevant context by linking what is learned in school to the knowledge and skills that are needed in the workplace. When students are on a career path that is aligned with what they are interested in, they are more likely to succeed in their career goals, thus lowering the high school dropout rate. This is a critical component not only to the economic well-being, but in positioning us on a global field.
Now, more than ever, we need to focus on career education, if we want to compete on a universal level. Some of the fastest growing industries require skills and training that only CTE programs offer. Kuder supports this by helping students and adults align their skills and interests into the relevant fields of work and study. It is imperative that students and adults are aware of all the career opportunities available to them. This, along with CTE, prepares them for careers of the future.
With unemployment rates on the rise, more individuals turn to CTE programs to help them transition into a new career. Kuder allows individuals to explore other career paths and even evaluate what skills they currently posses and how they might transfer to a different career. Additionally, Kuder helps individuals learn about all of the different postsecondary education options that are available including two-year technical programs and community colleges where they can increase their knowledge and skills and ultimately secure a new career path. During tough economic times, it is critical for individuals to utilize the resources that are available to them, such as the ones Kuder solutions can offer.
In order to equip students and adults with the skills necessary to transition into the workforce, administrators, teachers, and counselors need the proper tools to enhance curricula planning, make real-time program decisions, and forecast workforce and economic trends. The KCPS provides a reliable and effective career planning and development experience that supports CTE’s goal of shaping the global workforce and economy of tomorrow by equipping students and adults with the necessary skills today.
