Career Development Courses Offered In Arkansas

Arkansas Works is a strategic, statewide initiative to coordinate education, training, and economic development in Arkansas communities. Part of this initiative includes providing Career Development Facilitator (CDF) courses through Kuder to train and certify specific state personnel. The CDF credential designates individuals working in a variety of career development settings. This spring, 10 CDF courses are being offered in Arkansas to three types of career development professionals.

1. Postsecondary Educators

   One CDF course has been held to help postsecondary educators gain the knowledge and skills to further assist students with career planning at the college level.

2. Career Coaches

   To help stimulate interest in higher education and offset the effects of a difficult economic environment, the state hired 43 high school career coaches to promote postsecondary education, develop career plans, and explore financial aid with the ultimate goal of providing a continuum of career guidance to ease the transition of students from middle school and high school to postsecondary education and the workforce. Although it’s not yet a statewide program, the students impacted by the career coaches taking this CDF course come from families who rarely or never seek higher education in counties facing the most severe effects from the nation’s economic crisis.

3. Workforce Professionals

   From intake personnel to managers, including the Director of Workforce, several CDF courses will train more than 140 workforce professionals to become more knowledgeable in career theory, provide more efficient and effective career guidance, and gain proficiency in the career facilitation process.

Through these CDF courses, the state of Arkansas is helping stimulate interest in higher education and training opportunities to reverse the effects of the economic downturn. Coupled with the Arkansas College and Career Planning System, powered by Kuder^®, the courses are helping to provide resources for all Arkansas citizens and businesses to seek out education and training opportunities, develop a career plan, and find qualified employees.
