MySkillsFuture Singapore

MySkillsFuture, a one-stop online portal featuring highly customized versions of Kuder Navigator® and Kuder Journey®, launched October 29 in Singapore.

Sponsored by the Singapore Ministry of Education (MOE), Workforce Singapore (WSG) and SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG), the system enables Singaporeans from the age of 11 through adulthood to make informed learning and career choices.

In a joint statement, the MOE, WSG, and SSG said the portal’s purpose is to “provide Singaporeans with both online and offline access to information about skills and training, as well as job opportunities, so that they can actively acquire and deepen their skills, and plan their careers.”

Kuder partnered with a Singapore-based firm to complete the pilot and operational phases of the project to build the system’s Individual Learning Plan (ILP), ePortfolio, and modules to support users’ career planning reflections and goal-setting. In addition, the Kuder research team adapted the Kuder career assessments by localizing them for cultural appropriateness and content.

In the project’s preliminary stages, Kuder provided subject matter expertise to the system’s sponsors, informing supporting elements of the content structure for the occupational, educational, and industrial taxonomies used within the MySkillsFuture portal. Specifically, Kuder provided training, best practices, and other advice that SSG and MOE may use in sustaining and updating data and content relating to Singaporean job roles, skills learning opportunities, and growing industries.

“Background in certain vocational and career theory provided by Kuder enables SSG and MOE to locally rate job roles in ways that will enhance career exploration according to interests, skills confidence, and work values,” said Rich Gates, vice president of research for Kuder.

To ensure successful implementation by teachers, counselors, and administrators, Kuder developed system training plans and materials and is conducting mass briefing sessions as well as classroom lessons in public schools throughout Singapore.

“Kuder is proud to have played a significant role in MySkillsFuture,” said Kuder President and CEO Phil Harrington. “We admire Singapore’s innovative and proactive approach to the system, which truly empowers individuals to take ownership of their training and career development.”
