Tori Minger completed a six-month “school-to-work” internship at Kuder in May of 2013, when she was a high school senior. I recently caught up with her as part of our “Kuder Interns – Where are they now?” series.
Soon after she sat down at her cubicle on her first day as a Kuder intern, Tori received access to the Kuder® Career Planning System™ (KCPS) as a part of new employee orientation.
Tori got a lot more out of this exercise than most new employees. Tori began her Kuder internship five months before she graduated high school. But up until then, she hadn’t spent a lot of time considering her future. She was just starting to explore career possibilities and look at colleges. So for Tori, gaining product knowledge was the icing on the cake whenever she logged in to her Kuder® Navigator™ account.
After using Navigator for a few weeks, Tori narrowed down a list of options based on her interests, skills, and work values, and selected a few colleges that were a good fit.
By the time she left Kuder, Tori had received a college acceptance letter and was preparing for the next phase of her life.
Tori was a frequent contributor to the Kuder Blog during her internship. So before I share highlights of our recent conversation, I thought it would be fun to take a trip down memory lane by taking a look at some excerpts from her blogs.

In her first article, Tori admitted she hadn't taken career planning seriously until she began her senior year of high school:
Looking back, I should have started [career] planning much earlier … I could have taken more classes that aligned with what I intended to pursue in college; I could have worked part-time jobs or internships that related to my intended field of study; plus, I wouldn't be frantically deciding on what my future is going to entail when graduation is a mere five months away!
Tori did, however, know that she wanted to pursue a career where she could serve others:
My ultimate career goal is to help people. I want to be able to look at my career and know I touched at least one person's life and made a difference.

Two months later, Tori had narrowed her list down to two colleges:
Kuder [Navigator] has helped me create this list by giving me a system that I could go in to and choose colleges to compare. I was able to fill in search criteria I liked, or requirements I wanted, and it pulled up many schools that would fit my interests. The Kuder assessments also helped me with picking a college, as my results helped me pick a major, or a few, and I was able to use that to say yes or no to a college depending on if they had a strong program that I wanted.

In her last post, Tori announced she’d been accepted to Trinity International University and was looking forward to college life:
There are so many wonderful opportunities ahead, and I can't wait to take advantage of everything that's about to take place. I can't wait to push myself beyond what I've done before; to make new friends, try new things; live in a new city. I'm already certain my college years will be some of the best of my life, so now I'm just waiting for it all to begin!
What's Tori up to now? Is she satisfied with her college choice? Check back soon to find out!
